Snap store update wont go away

Asked by Geoff Johnson

I keep getting messages on top of the screen to say that "snap store update is pending - xx days to close" but although it vanishes before you can finish reading it, it re-appears two or three times a day. My Ubuntu advises it is up to date, but I still get offers of other updates. I have not used snap-store; I cannot open it; it does not appear in my list of installed applications; I don't know what it does or is trying to do. Can I remove snap-store from the computer? What do I need to do to stop these irrelevant messages? Please!

Thank you, but how do I open a "terminal window"?  I have gone through Activities and Software and Applications, none say "terminal window".  GJ

Search just for "terminal" or use the shortcut key combination ctrl-alt-t

Note, that you will get a request to enter your password for confirming ad administarive action, and when typing the password, you will not get any feedback (no echo, not even '*' placeholders). Just "blind" type you password upon the request and press the enter key.

Hi, and thank you again for your reply.  I think I may have fixed it, but in a different way (btw, how do you exit a terminal screen once you get into it?  "Exit" command, or "Esc" key?).
I have switched off update notifications in the updater application.  I have also found that, click on the date, and the calender comes up, complete with a copy of the notification in the left-hand panel, which I cleared.  There is a "do not disturb" button which I have switched on, which gives me a bell and slash icon to remind me, but I think that may stop the annoying pop-up (the GDPR (!) pop-ups for cookies are quite annoying enough!)  I don't even know what "snap-store" is about.  I get messages saying the whole system is up-to-date, but then offers a new version of Ubuntu.  I usually try to search for any bug reports before updating.  I have been using computers since 80-column punch card days - I don't trust 'em!
Thanks again, and I will close the enquiry.
Geoff. Johnson.

"how do you exit a terminal screen once you get into it?"

Either enter the command "exit" or press ctrl-d (for EOT - end of transmission), or close it by mouse click on the "x" sign in the top corner, just as you would close some other windows.

For closing this question and marking it as "solved", either use the link at the bottom of the mail that you receive as notification for an answer, or visit the page https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/703161 and press the appropriate button there.
