transferring photos from my cell phone to computer.

Asked by Katie M. Dyba

I have a Nokia 2720 flip phone; I followed their instructions and bought the right USB. Their instructions were, and I performed:
1. Select Settings. 2. Scroll to Storage. 3. Connect your phone to a compatible computer with a compatible USB cable. 4. On your computer open the File Manager and browse to your phone. When I did an internal search for File Manager - the answer was: "NO RESULTS". There are no icons or anything that say File Manager. It came with Windows 7 when I purchased the computer, new,
They gave me a business card and said to call that number for a gentleman to set it up for me. He did not get my permission or even mention that he planned to remove Windows 7 and put Ubuntu/Linux on it. He gave me no instructions or handbook on it. I was completely "in the dark". When I called him with a question, he would not return my call. I love Ubuntu/Linux! I have never been hacked or gotten a virus. I do not want to change back to Windows!! Do you have some instructions or e-book? I have some pictures that I need to e-mail shortly. Could you please help me with this problem? I am 87 years old and have not had any formal training on the computer.

Seems you need to set the phone to MTP mode. Does that help

I spoke to Verizon on 8/19/22 and was told that MTP Mode was not part of my contract; If I added that feature on my phone the cost would be an additional $25.00 per month. I declined that offer. It would be cheaper to buy a phone that has the feature: phone to email. So, my problem is NOT resolved.

Does Ubuntu have the ability to download MTP on my phone?

One way is to send your photos to your email,
then download the photos to your Ubuntu.

The other way would pair the Bluetooth of the phone with the
Bluetooth of the computer and send the photos that way.

MTP is a local connection mode that a mobile phone is able to use (or not), does not use the cell phone network, and has no relationship to the contract that you have with your network provider.
I am not aware of any way that the mobile phone provider can enable that, and an additional fee of 25$/month looks like a rip-off to me.

What make and model is your mobile phone?
What happens on the mobile phone when you plug it into the computer, and what happens on the computer?

"When I did an internal search for File Manager"

You can open the file management application by clicking on the correct icon in the icon bar on the left edge of the screen. Just point to the icon that looks like a document drawer

Sorry, that I overlooked make and model of you phone, it is written on the very beginning of your question.

Which Ubuntu release are you running?

For instructions, how to use Ubuntu, see https://help.ubuntu.com/

Can you help with this problem?
