BOOTING UBUNTU from USB breaks pc BOOT path!!!

Asked by Rafael

I made a full installation of UBUNTU 20.04 LTS on a usb media using a Rufus usb install media (choose GPT option as a partition and UEFI mode).

My pc is a new DELL desktop machine is brand new and has a Windows 11 OS installation.

I have noticed that the more I used the usb media to boot Ubuntu, the more the pc struggled to recognize Windows default bootloader path finally I end with a frozen DELL logo on screen ,(even F12 won't open).

Black screen appears on screen. I need to power on pc several times in order to computer to accept one of the choosen F12 option list avaiable.

I also found some weird files entries written on bios default and delete them all.

I have already spend months on internet searching to solve this issue and NOTHING works (format the machine twice will not solve the bug).

As a newbie and have not a clue about what may be causing that issue.

I have read the following statement on the web but this is a very advanced user explanation for a newbie to solve:
1- Windows 11 OS EFI NVRAM was wiped out by USB UBUNTU media.

2 - Non default (grub?) bootloaders are missing in WINDOWS 11 bootloader.

3 - Grub debian installer has a bug and messes with pc Windows 11 bootloader.

4 _ Has usb overwritten Windows 11 boot entries ?

5 _ Is it due to TPM (Trusted Platform Module) in new DELL machines which does not allow running Linux?

..."TCG has long specified TPM requirements(Opens in a new window) for the open-source Linux operating system, which means that people who want to switch their PCs between running Windows 11 and various Linux distributions should be able to do so. Support will vary depending on which Linux distribution you're using, and how the TPM requirement may interact with dual-boot environments is not yet 100% clear" - found this statement on the internet!

I wonder if an advanced command in cmd (command prompt) would rebuild boot as to solve the problem and also ALLOW BOOTING debian grubx64 from usb with Ubuntu desktop full installation.

Format the entire OS using DELL OS recovery and as soon as I started to run ubuntu from usb (F12) default path of Windows 11 OS is lost. Boot from usb or 1 tera external media HD runs smoothly in old pc with Windows 7 installation!!!

I would be very grateful for any further information someone maybe willing to give about the matter!

If the F12 key does not work, then this is not an Ubuntu error, but related to Dell hardware and BIOS.
Maybe https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/F12-Not-Working-to-Get-to-Boot-Menu/td-p/6243717 helps

F 12 is now working .
The problem is much more complex than that .
Is related to computer Bios defaults when one has Windows 11 running as main OS.
Advanced settings on bios must be changed but I do not know what changes to make in bios.

Thank you.

SMM Secure Mitigation BIOS must be disabled on Linux plataforms? (info found on Dell site) , Secure Boot issue, etc.

Furthermore, manual partition made during installation of Ubuntu has a lot of controversy. Do I need to make a boot uefi parition? In the beginning or as last partion? Should all be choosen as ext4 journaling?

Choose MBR or GPT? UEFI ? Default? Rufus media installer.

I usually boot from1 tera external HD Ubuntu desktop using F12 key.

Modern bios seems to not allow dual boot without causing serious problems within boot loader.

Thank you in advance.
