play DVD

Hi,
when I insert dvd nothing happens. When I open applications and select vlc and try to play this is what comes along...
Unable to open 'dvd:///dev/scd0'
Unable to open 'dvd:///dev/scd0'

Open your terminal and install the Restricted Codec:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

 Hello Actionparsnip,
thats already installed and it didnt work.

I tried vlc again and it makes a stuttering sound on start with no
control over curser and then I have to eject to stop if it doesnt turn
itself off?
