trouble installing brother mfc l2750dw printer on ubuntu machine

Asked by David Hartung

I have never been able to get a driver loaded, but have been using the printer in "driver less" mode. Now that will not work, and I cannot load the driver I have found. When I do, I get an error something along the lines of "unable to load cups, internal server error"

In addition, while I can get online, in the upper right hand corner, I have a question mark over the icon which normally tells me that I have an ethernet connection. I get the same thing when I move to wireless.

Which Ubuntu release are you running?

For diagnostic purposes, what is the output of the commands

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
systemctl --no-pager status cups

Thank you.

This got the driver installed, and the printer printed a test page, but
when I attempted to print from an application (Libre-office and
Thunderbird) nothing printed.

Now when I attempt to print a test page, the printer does not respond

An update.

Earlier I attempted to print a test page and the job would not print. O
posted the update below and powered down the computer. Just now when I
powered the machine backup, the test page printed, but will not print
anything else.

Earlier I have discovered that if I have print jobs in the que, when I
shut the computer down, and restart it, the first document in the que
will print. in order to get the next document to print, I have to do
another shutdown ans restart. Also, I have noticed a difference in the
network connection icon. Not sure if it means anything but I am
attaching screenshots. When I first power up the machine, i get the
usual Ethernet or wireless connection icon, then it switches to a
question mark. The interesting thing is that I can still get online.

I have gone to the site, downloaded the tool, but having trouble
navigating in terminal. Specifically I can't seem to understand the
format for to change directory to "Downloads". Apparenty what I remember
from the dos days doesn't always translate to Linux.

Which site, which tool?

"but having trouble navigating in terminal. Specifically I can't seem to understand the

Actionparsnip has given the command

cd ~/Downloads

If you have a different language setting where the name is different, you have to replace "Downloads" with whatever it is in your language. Caution: it is case sensitive.

A helpful feature of the linux shells:
Type "cd " and then press the tab key twice, this will show all values that make sense there.

It's the same as DOS. Just case sensitive
