I have 20.4 and am seeking advise so I can load software to get my printer working.

Asked by Simon Manchee

I have a colour Brother HL3230CDW Printer.
I tried to load the file I had for 18.4 and it will not load.
It would be handy for some assistance, please.

What is the exact model name? I do not find a HL3230CDW printer, but a HL-L3230CDW

I suggest that you try:

Download the driver from https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadend.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hll3230cdw_us_eu_as&os=128&dlid=dlf103925_000&flang=4&type3=10283
and install it.

Hello Manfred,

Thanks for your response.

I just tried to install and got the response; "failed to install, file
not supported"

I will try again.

Regards,

Simon.

What command? Instead of trying to explain what is happening. Copy the command as well as the output. We can then see what is going on

Did you follow the instructions ("how to install") from the page that you get from https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadend.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hll3230cdw_us_eu_as&os=128&dlid=dlf103925_000&flang=4&type3=10283 after accepting the EULA?

What output do you get for
dpkg -l | grep Brother
?

Is the queue in CUPS correctly set up?

Thank you for all your assistance.

The file would not load no matter what I did.

I managed to get it done another way.

Regards.

Replying to the automated email and attaching a file doesn't work. If you downloaded a file online, please give its URL or the guide you used. If the file is part of Ubuntu then please provide it's full path.

File was a brother printer install file: hll3230cdwpdrv.1.0.2.i386.deb
(Brother Industries File 2016-2018)

file extracted itself when opened in 'download folder' & OS indicated
the printer had installed.

A test print worked as it should.

Regards.
