cannot free up disk space on ubuntu (3.4GiB.. at 3.1 now)

i need to free disk space on my dell inspiron 9.. its a really tiny computer with barely any memory.. and it sucks, basically. it says i out of 3.4GiB i am using 3.1.. but i cannot figure out how to free up disk space of the junk it has. i am not used to ubuntu and i use windows at home, but not with this little laptop at work.. and i only use it for internet browsing... i am not the greatest with computers, so i need some very basic instructions. thanks!!

okay.. where do i type that in to do this?  like i said, i need very basic instructions.. i saw this on other responses to other questions, but i dont know where i am supposed to type this thing.. thanks

when i enter sudo apt-get clean into the terminal it asks for a password but does not let me type anything.. any ideas?? thanks for the help so far.. this computer is getting me so mad

If you type in the command mentioned above, you will be asked for a password.
As you type in the password, you will not see anything - no letters or asterisks will appear. Once you have entered the password, just press enter and you should see things happening. Once all is done, you will be back to the initial prompt and can simply close the terminal (type exit and press enter)
