My laptop will not reboot automatically, I have to reboot using recovery mode every time. I am a novice operater even though I have had Ubuntu for some years with no issues. (my husband installed it and he passed away).

I have to retstart the laptop and then I have to select "Advanced options for Ubuntu" and then down to 4.15.0-96-generic to re boot. I presume that it is the top line which is "4.15.0-99-generic" that is the issue as the system will want to automatically boot with that one?? I have to do this every time I start the laptop as it keeps defaulting to that start up line.
When I use that option, when it tries to boot the last line is;
2.493904} ---{ end Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown -block(0,0)
