can't connect to the internet
I just got a new laptop and Ubuntu 8.04 is the system on it. I have never heard of this system much less used it. Recently i have run into a huge problem. I tried to connect my wired Ethernet internet to the lappy and well it would show the two computers in the top corner saying it was connected but when i go online i can't pull anything up. Forgive me but i am not very tech savvy but i did the ping thing like the support on the computer said and it told me i was not connected. Well this wired internet work on my desk top just fine. I only have an issue when i hook it up to the new lap top. Now when i go to the connect info there is know IP address coming up and but it says it is receiving packets and it also says Eth0 but when i go into network tools it says loopback and when i try to configure for eth0 it says unavailable. I really don’t understand all of this. But i tried to get help from dell. But they said they don't to support for this system so i was like CRAP!! I found your email on the site and you were the closest to me so i am hoping for some help. I don’t want to have wasted all this money on a new computer and i can't even use it.
Thanks and i hope you can help!
Sorry if i have confused you but i am confused myself. Let me know if you need to know any thing else and i will try to find out the answer if will help you help me.
Thanks Again!!
