Pagesize JB4 of B4 not found for brother MFC-J6520DW after installing 18.04

Asked by Leo van Romunde

I have an MFC-J6520DW brother printer to print music sheets on JB4 paper.
It functioned well on Ubuntu 16 but on Ubuntu 18.04 the papersize JB4 disappeared.
What can i do to restore this functionality?

Papersizes are mostly expressed in A and in B series (A1, A2, A3, A4 ... and B1, B2, B3, B4 ...)
JB4 is the Japanese modification of B4 , just a litle bit different from B4.
MFC-J6529DWsupports JB4.

Thanks in advance for helping me.

How did you install the driver, if at all?

You received this question notification because you asked the question.

When I bought this printer I installed it with the driver software from
Brother for debian linux. with ubintu 16.
In Ubuntu 18.04 the printer was directly connected without the need of
installing a driver (driverless)
But pagesize JB4 was not longer available in the driverless version.

I downloaded today the driver installation script from the site of
brother. I tried to reinstall the driver in the old way, but did not
succeed. I suppose that the script and components were outdated.

I inspected my printer today: The papersize JB4 or B4 can be found on the
paper-tray. It is an official papersize supported by this printer.
Therefore there will be something wrong with a specification file,
something that had the function of a ppd in former times. That is my
feeling. Is that the case?
