Asked by Len Jarrett

I have Ubuntu 18.04 single boot installed. Previous OS was Windows 10. I understood that single boot meant that Windows 10 would be deleted from my laptop. However, i have decided to return to Windows 10 and have bought a windows 10 dvd. But when I try to install from disc i'm told that Windows 10 is still on my laptop but I do not have the option in boot sequence to load Windows - its nowhere to be seen. Help.

I suggest that you execute a diagnose of your system with help of the bootinfo script
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Info
This should show the presence or absence of Windows on your hard disk.

From another question that you created:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/YWR496Xjdm/

The only item related to Windows that I see in that output is the Master Boot Record
"=> Windows 7/8/2012 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda."

I do not think that this should prevent the Windows installer disk from starting.
How exactly do you try starting the Windows installer, and what happens when you do this?

"…which doesn't work…"

Does not work in what sense?
What exactly happens if you try?
Can you boot from this disk?
What happens then?
