Remove button does nothing in Ubuntu Software center

Asked by mcandre

The Remove button has always had trouble working in the Ubuntu Software center. I really want to remove a bunch of preinstalled junk like the games and backup utility and so on. But when I click the Remove button, and then click through the confirmation prompt, nothing happens.

I tried relaunching the Ubuntu Software center app. No change in behavior.

Sigh, I'm going to have to go through the lower level apt-get interface for this, as I have had to do for years.

As a workaround, I actually had to reboot my Ubuntu machine before the Ubuntu Software center would let the Remove button work. Grrrrr!

Were you installing updates / new packages or removing other packages at the time? If so then you will see this as only one package system can access the packages at any one point

Nope, just one at a time.
