I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. This is a technical term with which I am not familiar. How would I find this answer? BTW, the scan function (software and hardware) of the HP 7155 all-in-one printer works fine on my Windows 7 PC.

The device is connected by USB. I am also using Microsoft USB mouse. Thanks for your help. I am learning a little more about working with Ubuntu OS through this process.

Try grabbing the latest HPLIP. Mark it as executable and run it as user (without sudo). This may help.
