How do I navigate to my music files in vlc player to play the music?

Where do you store your media on your file system please?

Thank you. Music files are on the external drive. Linux sees it but I do
not know how to get there.

When I click on Open File in the menu vlc shows /My name and rest is
blank. How do I get to the file?
