ubuntu new install, cant get internet to work

I am using the latest version of Ubuntu and am a new user of it. Wanted to see what was out there other than window.

was hardware issue

there is no need of drivers in ubuntu. to connect to internet write in
terminal (application------accessories-------terminal)
write down the following command: 1> sudo(space) pppoeconf (enter)
                                                      2>give ur login
password (enter)
                                                      3>then go on clicking
"yes"
                                                      4>when it asks u for
ur username give it followed by password.
                                                      5>then continue
clicking yes
to play songs and videos go to applications-------add or remove programs.
type in search menu bar gstreamer. select all the gstreamer icons that
appear and click apply changes at the bottom.
