first insert ur xp installation cd into the drive and follow the steps. then
select the ubuntu (ext3) drive and format it. then continue with the
installation of xp. when done insert ubuntu installation cd and follow the
steps. when partition manager starts select the drive which is empty and
format it to ext3 format. then ubuntu will automatically be installed in
that drive.
HOPE THIS HELPS. BEST OF LUCK.

Hope this one will help you . . .

Another easy way is to have dual OS [Ubuntu & Windows] But it needs partitioning your hard disk.
