Trying to install gstreamer packages on 18.08

What is 18.08? Are you referring to Ubuntu 18.04?

For diagnostic purposes please provide the output of the following commands:

uname -a
lsb_release -crid

From the control files for the package management system:

"Package: gstreamer1.0-python3-plugin-loader
…
Conflicts: … gstreamer1.0-python3-dbg-plugin-loader
…
Package: gstreamer1.0-python3-dbg-plugin-loader
…
Conflicts: … gstreamer1.0-python3-plugin-loader"

So you can install either one or the other.

If I look at your initial command, then this seems to be wrong and the root cause.
You requested installation of a package "gstreamer1.0", but such package does not exist. So apt treats this a s a regulat expression and tries to install everything that has gstreamer1.0 in its name, including the two packages that cannot be installed at the same time.

Which packages to you really want to install?

Sorry, typo, yes I ment 18.04. Thank you for your explanation of how the
package manager treats packages that are requested but not found as regular
expressions, I did not realize it did that. I will carefully verify the
packages I am trying to install and see which ones have changed.
