when i input a line in a terminal box it asks me my password but it wont let me

i have just started ubuntu when i input a line of code and press the input key it asks me for my possword but when i go to input it it wont let me i am learning from the linux open source manual and im stuck

When you type your password when you are using sudo you won't get any feedback. Just type your password and hit ENTER

The point is when i put a line of code in a terminal and hit enter i get a request for my password but it wont allow me to input the password there is a cursor but i press a letter but nothing happens j futter
