I've lost my tool bar at the top of Speed Crunch calculator

Asked by Jeff Davidson

I use the Speed Crunch calculator and have recently lost sight of the tool bar. This makes it impossible to clear history, expressions or make any multitude of changes. This problem has occurred since I recently began using Gnome default desktop. I uninstalled and reinstalled while logged into Gnome but this made no change. I uninstalled again and logged out of Gnome and went back into Unity. I reinstalled Speed Crunch in Unity and my tool bar reappeared. Then I logged out of Unity and back into Gnome and once again have no tool bar on Speed Crunch...Help!

Is it just Speed Crunch that misses the toolbar, or do you see this problem with all programs?

Für diagnostic purposes please provide the output that you get for the commands

uname -a
lsb_release -crid

Hi thanks for responding,
I have only lost the tool bar on speed crunch.  All other apps are working okay with only minor bugs as I get used to using Gnome instead of Unity.  I am using 16.04 LTS by the way.  Sorry but I do not know what you are asking about "the output for commands.

Copy the commands and paste them into the terminal. Copy the output and paste as an update on:

I have attached a screen shot of the output per your request. Only Speed
Crunch is missing the tool bar.  It was showing a tool bar in Gnome
until a few days ago.  If I log out of Gnome and back into Unity and
open Speed Crunch the tool bar is showing.   Thank you, Jeff

Replying to the automated email and attaching a file doesn't work. Use imageshack or Dropbox public to make a URL of the image and post the link as an update

Thanks to all who tried to help.

I visited the website for Speed Crunch, searched for reported issues and found the answer to my problem. The "tool bar" which they call a "menu bar" can be hidden by accidentally clicking on the option to hide it in a drop down menu or this can be done (and undone) by Ctrl+Alt+M. Who knew...Once the menu bar is hidden their is no way to retrieve it unless you happen to know the keyboard shortcuts. I uninstalled and reinstalled Speed Crunch many times in both Unity and Gnome desktops and when it loaded up their was no visible menu bar in Gnome but their was in Unity. This led me to believe the problem was with Gnome, but maybe not. Now that I know the keyboard shortcut it is easy to make it disappear and reappear...whew! Visiting the Speed Crunch website was not very informative until I got lucky and narrowed my search to "toolbar" and found ONE reported issue and the simple answer.

I have been spending more and more time using and modifying Gnome to get used to it and as this issue seemed to coincide with me switching back and forth between the two desktops, I mistakenly blamed Gnome.

I hope this helps anyone else who may encounter this issue, Jeff
