What proprietary drivers do you need? Usually the Ubuntu CD has all the required drivers on it and will also install them.
I presume your wireless connection is not working? What happens when you click on the network manager in the upper right orner? Does wireless work when booting from the cd?

Although the wireless stuff should have been installed while install Ubuntu as the installer detected the hardware it might be worth adding the Cd to the repositories list so that you can install stuff from the Cd and see what other packages the Cd has that you might like to install. To do this go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager

it asks for your normal user password, not your SuperUser/Root one. Go up to the "Settings" menu (or is it called Tools?) and select "Repositories" then just tick the box beside the Cd option. Refresh (about the same place as the 'reload' button would be in a web-browser). You should now have a lot of packages that are not marked with a green blob. All packages currently already installed are marked with a green blob and to install other packages just right-click, choose "Install" (or "reinstall") and then click on the "Apply" button.

Hope this helps get a little bit closer to the answer for this.
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

PS it's just occured to me that you might have more luck either using a LiveCd of another distro that's good at picking up wiifi and wireless - or perhaps installing it alongside Ubuntu as part of a multi-boot system

Perhaps the settings they use would help set your Ubuntu up?
