Is it possible to watch video such as "The Daily Show" with 7.10 Feisty Fawn?

Asked by Michael J. Kelly

For example: mozilla-plugin-vlc conflicts with existing software according to add/remove window. Resolve conflict with synaptic package manager. How? I would like to watch Stewart and Colbert on line. Is that possible with Feisty Fox. I had no better results with 8.04. Other video plays 2-3 seconds at a time and can only be watched as a whole by replaying. I know very little about computers so perhaps I have no choice but Windows.

Are you watching on YouTube? Then you need a flash player. Go to "System"->"Administration"->"Synaptic Package Manager", search for "flash player" and install it.

How about upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10? And then installing the Medibuntu media package?

Medibuntu has lots stuff for making multimedia more accessible.

Good luck and regards from
Tom

I probably don't have enough technical knowledge for Ubuntu. Flash Player and various other media applications are not downloadable due to dependency, software, and repository issues. I don't know how to ask a question let alone how to understand most answers or instructions I get. I have the same issues with trying to upgrade. I hate Windows--it is analogous to commercial radio to me, but it seems to require les knowledge. Thank you. MJK.

Well, first: which site are you watching the videos on?

And secondly: can you do that: go to the main menu (where Ubuntu symbol is) and go to "System"->"Administration"->"Synaptic Package Manager"

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/re-posting a question just before america arrives online after work/school gives the best chance of getting a good few answers - such is the nature of the internet.
