Sorry, silly question: did you give it some time to wait? I remember initramfs took quite a while when I last used a live cd. Just to make sure I understand: you boot your computer straight from the CD?

I've made a clean fresh install of win XP but ubuntu still will not install. There are no errors reported within windows. In fact it won't load into this computer even with no other operating system present. It works fine on my other computers. I am completely baffled. i've trid the 32 &64 editions and even the advanced Ubuntu. Kubuntu, Mandriva also won't install.

Tell us how far you are getting through the installation. I'm assuming that the Ubuntu live CD menu at least comes up? That is to say, that you are successfully booting from the CD and haven't got the system's BIOS set to boot from the hard drive only? It may seem like a dumb question, but, hey, you never know.

OK. So I had a brain freeze. You clearly stated in your question how far you were through the installation process. Sorry for the pointless comment.

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/re-posting a question just before america arrives online after work/school gives the best chance of getting a good few answers - such is the nature of the internet.

If the problem has been resolved then please follow the link to the forum thread and mark it as Solved but please give us a clue how you did manage to solve it and also use the button under where you type stuff in rather than giving me karma credit points for just sending this note to you.

Apologies, good luck and many regards from
Tom :)
