Run Ubuntu from live cd. Went To gpart and hard drive was not shown. Went into My computer and it is not shown. CD drive and file system only. Getting very frustrated. About ready to give up on Ubuntu.

Been trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 for 2 weeks (to no avail). I keep the error that something must be wrong with my CD/DVD or hard drive. So .. I bought a new 500GB HD and still got the same error. Then I disabled my primary HD (from the BIOS) and installed Ubuntu from the second drive but got the same error as I did with the first drive. Next, i tried installing Ubuntu using my USB flash drive and got the same message that there is a problem with my CDC/DVD or Hard drive.

I have read alot of Ubunty forums and saw this one that tells me to go to the terminal and type lspci. I did it and got the following information.
