Can't download internet files and convert to dvd in 8.10.

Asked by Steve Lathan

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10. In the former, I used the ant.com toolbar to download internet videos and then devede to convert said files and write same to dvd. In 8.04, these applications worked fine once I had may disk partitioning problem fixed. In 8.10, however, life is not as simple. Although the ant.com toolbar says a video is downloading, and the downloader tracks it, no resulting files exist. I've tried using download helper, but devede does not seem to want to accept these files. Am I off my rocker to expect the functionality I had in an older release to be the same or better in the new release. Any help is appreciated.

Regressions do happen but maybe this is just a case of files going somewhere unexpected? Have you hunted around for them? Does Devede know where they are. Maybe there's some lib file missing or a codec?

Good luck with this

I've now noticed that I get an error message to the effect that the file can't be saved (after downloading) because "the source file could not be read".  Does this mean there is something wrong on my end or the other?
