Why does VPNC drop after 60 seconds

Asked by Rick

After upgrading to Feisty...
After establishing a VPN connection to the Cisco firewall at work. The connection is dropped after 60 seconds.
I must then reconnect via VPNC. I didn't have this problem with Edgy.

Check in your settings for any setting that may cause this.

Could you run it in a terminal and post the output here (if there is any output).

Also, what version are you using (in comparison to the version you were using in Edgy), and are there any differences in your setup (either at work or home)?

Hi
I installed the package at the following link
http://packages.debian.org/stable/net/vpnc

Which is version vpnc (0.3.3+SVN20051028-3)
And this resolved the problem.

If you like I can "upgrade" to the version that comes with Feisty and run
some diagnostics for you.

Let me know if you want to pursue this. If you do let me know which
diagnostics you want me to run and I can capture the output and sent it to
you.
Otherwise you can close this question and put the work around to be to
install version 0.3.3+SVN20051028-3 of the VPNC client at the URL above.

cheers
Rick Snyder

This sound like bug #93413.

vpnc 0.4.0 has some problems with DPD (dead pear detection) and Cisco hardware.
The connection gets dropped after some seconds.

The current workaround is to use vpnc 0.3.3 from edgy.

Thanks for the reply.
I can't access the link
https://answers.beta.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/5791/+confirm?answer_id=2

At the bottom of the page.

Thanks for your help.

Simply remove the beta from the url:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/5791/+confirm?answer_id=2

If you encounter more URLs with beta in it, you can simply remove it. These URL are generated by people testing the next version of Launchpad.
It shouldn't normally appear in e-mails send out.
