well that depends on how you installed ubuntu. if you installed ubuntu from within windows using Wubi, or if you installed ubuntu into a separate partition/drive than windows, then you should be presented with a grub boot menu that you can choose which OS to load when starting your computer. if you booted off the ubuntu LiveCD and installed into the partition that used to belong to windows, then you've effectively deleted windows from your computer.

lets take a closer look at whats on your hard disk. can you open a terminal from Applications->Accessories and type the following commands?

blkid
sudo fdisk -l

please reply with the results.

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 14406 115716163+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 14407 14593 1502077+ 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 14407 14593 1502046 82 Linux swap / Solaris

This is the response I get.. there is no mention of Windows and I'm affraid
I might have done the second thing that you described... Is there no going
back? It didn't seem like anything was being deleted at the time Linux was
being installed. Thanks for your help

Well, in your case you will have to reinstall both. The problem is that Windows needs to be on the first pimary partition, wich is ocupied by Linux at the moment.
