no applications listed in Applications add/remove

Hi,

What happens when you open a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

The potential error message may contain useful information.

Arnaudus, Thanks for your quick response.I did try your
suggestion but I'm afraid it did not help.
                     I have therefor done a clean install of Intrepid (8.10
).O.K. now.

I'm having exactly the same issue... it's very weird!

I found that my problem appeared following the download of BBC Iplayer.I
therefore did a clean install of Intrepid(8.10) checked that Applications
was OK then reinstalled BBC I player:The problem reappeared.
I did another clean install OK and I have not installed Iplayer
