some keys on my generic USB keyboard do not work properly ufter upgrading from kubuntu 6.10 to 7.04

Asked by Artur Schmitt

The leftmost keys on my generic (105 Intl keys) USB keyboard do not work properly after upgrading from kubuntu 6.10 to 7.04. Pressing the keys "q","w","a","s","z","x", always the combinations "qw", "qw", "as", "as", "zx" and "zx" appear on the screen, respectively. The problem disapears after unpluging and pluging-in the keyboard. This did not happen before using Kubuntu 6.10.

Thanks for the question.

Did this only happen after the upgrade, or everytime you reboot?

I note a mac user reporting the same issue under Mac OSX which says to me it's not an Ubuntu problem.

Perhaps your USB port is not delivering enough current to power the keyboard? Try another keyboard, another USB port, or even try plugging it into a powered USB hub.

Before, using Kubuntu 6.10, it never happened. This morning, after
network upgrade from Kubuntu 6.10 to Kubuntu 7.04. The problem started
to appear. After the first reboot, it disappeared but came back after
the next reboot. It seems to be a hardware control problem since it
disappears after unplugging and plugging-in again the USB keyboard
connector (without turning of the machine).

I have the same problem - is there anybody who knows how to solve this problem?
I'm using PS2 keyboard and Ubuntu 7.04 - some keys are working in default login dialog (e.g. asdfp...), some don't (e.g.: je...).
I haven't this problem with previous two versions of Ubuntu.

No, I have a PS2 keyboard and unpluging/pluging-in the keyboard doesn't help.
