Must reboot to use the internet

Asked by knowsgrace

I have installed Ubuntu. Unfortunately, my only internet connection is via a cable internet modem. If the modem is connected when I boot the system, everything works. If I plug in the modem when the system is up, the system can't find the server. What do I need to adjust?

What version of ubuntu do you have?

Is this "high speed" "always on" internet? Or something that has to connect each time, like "dial Up" internet?

Also, by "plug in the modem" you mean you plug the network cable into your machine?

Sorry to ask so many questions. I just want to get a better understanding of your situation. I know how frustrating this can be.
