How to customise the ubuntu install to usb packages

Asked by josheeg

Hi I see I can download a iso and install it to a USB stick using some GUI tool in system or prefrences on ubuntu. How can I customise the packages and files that are on the destop in that iso?

How about just being able to use synaptic on it and put things on the desktop?

The good news, is those features are going to be added in the next release of USB-Creator. The bad news is you'll have to wait for Jaunty to come out in 6 months.

thats not quite a answer I seen other things customise a distrobution and a
iso can be opened like a zip correct? So if synaptic could be pointed to
thowse packages or if a package is easly removed could that not be done or
added?

Alright. Three apps that will help you do this are Reconstructor, UCK, or Remastersys. I don't believe any are in the repos.

http://uck.sourceforge.net/
http://reconstructor.aperantis.com/
http://www.remastersys.klikit-linux.com/

If you want to do it the old fashioned way, see the documentation here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization
