all text missing from menus and toolbars in openoffice.org 3.0 in ubuntu 8.10
installed ubuntu 8.10 incl openoffice 2 ( all text missing) installed open office 3.0 and all text is still missing from menus and toolbars, all notification boxes ; only underlines are visible. what is going on?

Please try
Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:
(when the system ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter)
sudo apt-get --reinstall install openoffice.
Then based of the Gnome style are you using please try to reinstall/
sudo apt-get --reinstall install openoffice.
sudo apt-get --reinstall install openoffice.
sudo apt-get --reinstall install openoffice.
sudo apt-get --reinstall install openoffice.
sudo apt-get --reinstall install openoffice.
sudo apt-get --reinstall install openoffice.
sudo apt-get --reinstall install openoffice.
