USB to Serial mouse

Asked by ManBoy

When I use Windows, it automatically installs the drivers for my USB to Serial mouse adapter. I can't seem to find the driver for Ubuntu.
I use a special mouse due to my physical limitations and a regular USB mouse is useless to me.
I'm new to this OS so you have to go step-by-step.

Hi ManBoy,
Just to clarify, the mouse is a serial mouse right and its goes into the USB port via an adapter? And its not being detected by Ubuntu? Can you clarify this, and also which version of Ubuntu are you using, and have you done all relevant updates, etc?
Thank you :)

Yes, a serial mouse thru a USB adapter and Ubuntu doesn't see it.

I have 8.10 w/ all the updates.

This really should be filed as a bug. If the underlying Ubuntu kernel cannot see the USB device then it is a problem. Do other serial devices work through this USB adapter or is it just this mouse? Also as silly as it may sound, have you tried other ports? I will file this as a bug for you so this can get worked on by the kernel team. You may need to give quite a bit more information, but myself or another members of the Ubuntu Bug Squad will help you in getting the required info to help.
Thank you :)

Thanks :) Hopefully they'll fix it.

No problem. There is now a bug filed on this. If you go to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/295983 you will find it. Any further information/comments/additions will need to be put through there now. Closing this question as it now related to a bug. Thanks :)
