weatherbug in Ububtu 8.4

Asked by bjorn

Hi All,
I have installed WeatherBug in Ubuntu 8.4 and it works perfect. Now I like to add this to my start-up file but I do not known were the execution file is located. I am use to .exe but in Ubuntu it will be called something different. Can somebody advice me in this?

Thanks // Bjorn

Auto-starting the application.

Just go to System-> Preferences-> Sessions. I am not sure if a Weatherbug entry is automatically created. If one is you just need the check the tick-box and it will auto-start when you boot.

If there is no Weatherbug entry. Create one by hitting the add button and fill in this information. For the name box: Weatherbug For command box (case sensitive) weatherbug. Save and it will now auto-start

Hope this helps

Thanks Wyatt,
That is just it. When I add, I need to fill in the path.
I do not know what path and name of the executing file weatherbug. I
have a lot of weatherbug files but which one do I choose? What is the
extension of an execution program in Linux. If I know, it will be easy
to find.

Please just put the command weatherbug in the Command Box. You do not need a path.

Windows uses the file extension to tell it which application to run to process the file (Word to handle .DOC files, etc.). UNIX/Linux doesn't use file extensions to figure out how the program should be run. Bottom line is that file extensions are -- for the most part -- optional.

If you feel you must use a path, I suggest you check these directories for weatherbug

/usr/bin
/usr/share/applications

Thanks

Thanks Wyatt,
I did thai again. I did what you suggested.
Sys/settings/sessions I edited the weatherbug accordingly and installed
the string /usr/share/waetherbug.desktop but it still do not start the
program. Maybe it is a bug in weatherbug?

I was intrigued that using weatherbug simple wouldn´t work. So I installed it and found that it had some strange java dependencies.

I have it running in sessions with the following command. Please copy and paste long command from this post, directly into you command box. Then logout and log back in.

java -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni -Xms8M -Xmx32M -jar /usr/share/java/weatherbug.jar default

Please tell..... if this works.

I retry and you don´t need all the java flags

/usr/share/java/weatherbug.jar

will also work.
