Need advice about MP3 player

Since having started anew with a new Ubuntu disc I have now got lots of memory but have lost my music.
I have some on MP3 players that I would like to put into a music library. How do I do this.

Also here is another question: When I put some music onto an MP3 player (sansa) a lot of tracks came up "Unknown" so couldn't tell what they were to play by album or artist so all I can do is play random music on a "shuffle" or play the first tunes over and over. That is what happened when I put music on from CDs. Interestingly music I had downloaded was recognized and I was able tosee what is was.

How do I get the player to recognize what is coming from a CD?

It probably depends on how you access your MP3 player--there are a number of main systems:
-Some show up in the computer as a disk like a USB memory stick. If this is the case, you can just copy the MP3 files off them.
-Some use standard systems like 'MTP' that you should be able to access from inside a media player in Ubuntu--I know Amarok can access these, and others probably can too.
-Some use proprietary software to encode the songs and transfer them to the player. In this case, it may be very difficult to get the music back. Happily, a bit of research suggests that 'Sansas' probably aren't of this type.
What happens when you plug it in?

With the CD question, how are you transferring the music from CD to your MP3 player?

When you take the music from a CD it needs to be transferred into a format that the MP3 player can read.
The process of taking the data from the CD is known as "ripping".
The process of turning this into MP3 files is known as "encoding".
When you rip and encode music from a CD the artist/track/album data needs to be written into the MP3 file as part of the encoding process. Without this the MP3 player cannot display information about the file.
I use the "grip" program to rip CDs before copying the resulting MP3s to my portable media player - most recent media players can also do ths - check the documentation regarding ripping and encoding from your favourite player.

Thanks for your help. I have got my CD made at last.
For the second question
When I put the CD in the computer it gets ripped to Movie Player.
I think it would be better to use Rhythm box. I drag the tracks to the
player.
