No longer able to transfer files from 16.04 desktop to iPhone 4s

?The last time I transferred mp3s and pdfs from my Acer R3610 desktop to my iPhone 4s was about a year ago and it all went very smoothly.

Now I cannot get the same screen and I can only download photos from the iPhone to the desktop. I get two icons looking like a camera. I no longer get a dialogue box offering which app on my iPhone to open to access the files connected with that app.

My gvsf and libimobile packages are up to date and installing ifuse made no difference.
Is there anything else likely to fix this problem?

If it is any help, I could connect to iTunes with the iPhone 4s using Windows 7. No problem with the phone, it seems.
