dapper-updates channel

Asked by Bani

A simple question!
To upgrade Ubuntu-Linux from 6,06 LTS to 8.04 LTS I have to:
Enabble the "dapper-updates" software (or channel).

- What means "dapper-updates" software (or channel) ?
- How can I enable "dapper-updates" software ?

Please try an answer, so that I (no expert) can understand it.
Thank You

Find "Software Sources" in your menus and click the checkbox which refers to dapper updates so that they are included.
After that you can use "Update Manager" to download and install all updates to get you to 8.04 Hardy Heron.

Open a terminal window and type

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

try the latter two a few times until you see that there are no further updates to be done.

That should get all the latest Ubuntu updates and will actually update you to the later releases of Ubuntu
You have 6.06 so there was 6.10, 7.04, 7.10, 8.04.
