problems reading some pdf.swf files

Asked by Alessandro Testa

Can't run an autoexecutable dvd, and ubuntu is unable to open the pdf.shockwave files inside: is there any reading application in the depository? It's a very important collection of scientific articles and I'd hate to use my son's bloody windows pc.

ubuntu cannot run windows executables.
so you cannot install windows applications
can you specify the type of file you want to view?
if it a pdf file which i suspect it is you can see it with evince(if not allready installed, type inside a terminal)
sudo apt-get install evince

I have te same problem: the file has an extension .pdf.swf and it can't be opened with evince, acrobat reader or any video player.

It should be a document.

I also tried to install the reader (using wine) but it doesn't work

No they are not on the web.

But I kind solve the problem: you can read the file using mozilla firefox: just drap and drop them!
Probably Firefox has a good flash player

For Alessandro Testa: Now the problem is ho to use the database in the DVD !!

I try, but firefox didn't open them.
It's any way to extract the pdf file from the swf?
The files are "Le Scienze" articles, the italian edition of "Scientific American".
I just bought the 2 dvds, I don't know if they are also on p2p.
I'm not very happy because they made all the articles in .pdf.swf format, and the database query is compatible only with Win and Mac.
