Impossible to set up my email in UBUNTU

Does this Server need SSL-Authentification? Evolution is a very goog Email-Client, i use it over 2 years with Email-Accounts from many Service-Provider and there was no Problem.

Wow wow, don't get all dramatic over there! Of course you can set up your e-mail in Ubuntu. As long as you have an internet connection and basically have port 21 opened (which is practically always the case, unless you have a silly ISP).

Anyway, there are several ways to use an e-mail client. For example, there's Evolution, as Martin Kaufmann said, and there's Thunderbird, and for Kubuntu there's Kontact. I've tried all three, and I stuck with Thunderbird.

Just try searching for it in Synaptic, and see what looks best for your purposes. If you want a simple e-mail client, take Thunderbird. If you want a calendar, agenda and other fancy stuff, take Evolution or Kontact. Just because Kontact was made for Kubuntu doesn't mean it won't work on Ubuntu.

Whenever you have one of them installed, just add a new account and try to get your mail from the server. Now, if it doesn't work, come back and give us the exact error you're getting.

Thanks for the assistance.My worry is that the incoming mail (<email address hidden>) which has been working for some years in XP, is from Onetel (not from my server) and my outgoing mail is via my server Talktalk AOL (both, as you know are Craphone Warehouse, but there appeared to be no allowance for the unusual details to be entered in my initial setup and which passwords to go where and the details to enter are therefore unclear.
I do not understand computer software, only the hardware (electronics) and I am totally new to Linux and would like to get rid of Windows (and DOS) which is becoming more complex and power hungry and has far too many facilities that I would never use and is still somewhat unstable etc. etc.
Thunderbird sounds OK to me, but how to obtain it rather than the default which comes with the initial setup , I do not know.
