Hello!

I would like to ask some more information about the boot-process you are doing? So as I understood you restart your laptop pop in the ubuntu install disc and it boots your cd up and appears the install menu where it says "start or install ubuntu". You choose this option but nothing happens windows boots up right?

If this is the case then my first question would be did you try out with another install cd?
Second that your cd-rom works properly?

But I think if this is the case what I described to you above try another install cd. Maybe there is a problem with the cd, because the cd should boot up, there is no connection with windows, the cd-rom boots before the hard-drive so normally you can boot ubuntu.

And say what happened.

It's as you described, but I have to press F12 for boot options. I then choose CD/DVD drive. I get the first Ubuntu options screen, then whatever option I choose everything just hangs, until I remove the CD, then Windows starts.

I've tried 2 different CDs (both burnt on my desktop computer, but in different drives).

I'll download again and burn another one, and report back.

Maybe third time lucky.

I tried again, and still no luck.

I opt to boot via CD/DVD drive, and nothing happens. Then when I take the disc out, it boots into Windows.

Maybe if I try a previous version?

I've had an idea.
Tomorrow, I'll see if I can double the RAM on my laptop, and try again.

I'll let you know.

Watch this space (it may be a few days before I can update the topic)

I suppose the problem is not with the ram, if you have at least 512 it
should work.
Take a look at the hardware, if it has some problem or no.

Let me know what happened.

I spent the whole of Saturday morning updating all my device drivers and firmwares. I burned a new copy of Ubuntu, at a lower speed, for accuracy, and it now runs OK.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
