Sound my sound anolog built in does not appear in sound settings

Asked by Ed Redman

Ubuntu 16.10

Two days ago after plugging in earphones (wireless which unknown to me were completely discharged) my sound stopped working. I have been able to get the sound working again but not the presence of the card in the sound setting window. I installed pulse volume control . Its says the device is unplugged. I have been unable to find a way to reset from unplugged to plugged in. I was able to get the sound working with

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.config/pulse* then wait and restart pulseaudio. When I do this the sound settings show on the right and titled sound settings for line out. However the line out device is missing on the left. All that appears there is my HDMI Port.

No matter what I do it seems that the device appears unplugged. Is there some way to tell ubuntu that it is plugged in again. How can I convince my computer that it working again.
