New to ubuntu - App Ubuntu Software Won't Launch?

Hello,

Thank you for your time to review my question, I'm not even sure if this where I post - entirely new after using Windows for as long as I can remember and DOS as a kid. I think I'm running 16.04? Anyway, the Ubuntu Software icon will come up but it no longer allows me to query or download. What do I do please? Thank you!

If you close the application and open a terminal and run:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Is it OK?

Hi actionparsnip, thanks for your reply - I used those commands and while I noted activity in the terminal, I still am unable to launch the "interface?" from the launcher for ubuntu
