no sound when playing listen again radio on mplayer plugin on opera and firefox

Asked by sandra mclean

sorry i'm totally lost, whenever i use firefox or opera, and attempt to listen to a listen again radio programme,
mplayer plugin window comes up, appears to be loading the programme, but then throws up a message saying
'stopped' and that's that, no sound, nothing, strangely some radio programmes do play, but never when the mplayer window displays.
i've attempted to install backends etc, but sadly nothing works, now i don't know what's installed what isn't or how to delete unnecessary software to leave me with adequate space

hope someone can offer some guiding light,
many thanks
sandra

Hi, not sure what you mean by "attempted to install backends"
However you do have at least two places to select a media player that does work for you.
In Ubuntu, System/Preferences/Preferred Applications
In Firefox, Edit/Preferences/Applications

May be a good idea to check System/Administration/Software Sources/ Third Party Software and and then Updates to make sure all you need are selected

Hi again, Sandra.
Sorry those instructions weren't clear enough for you.
Other than that those instructions, like a road guide, both start at
the top panel, select System at the top panel, and select Edit at the
top panel of Firefox, then select each listed item in sequence, it may
help at this end if you can explain exactly how you installed opera.

Thanks
