installation error

Asked by busyguy081

I tried installing ubuntu this morning and encountered this endless error:

[ XXX.XXXXXX] SQUASHFS error: unable to read page, block 267c0c94, size f9e6

[ XXX.XXXXXX] sb_bread failed reading block 0x9941

[ XXX.XXXXXX] was sequential numbers counting up. It just kept going and going. It happened right after I selected "install Ubuntu" after the language selection in the very beginning.
Is there something wrong with the program or my computer?

Are you installing Ubuntu 8.04.1?
Is it the Desktop or Alternate CD?

I'd recommend you try the Alternate CD from (click the checkbox on this link)...
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

It is possible that you could have a problem with your disk but give the Alternate CD a go before going down that path.

It appears that the cd is corrupted (and thus won't load the live session) - did you check the md5sum before you burned, then burn at a slow speed like 4x to help prevent write errors?
For burning your own cd, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes
You should try again, but this time make sure the image file is not corrupted by checking the md5sum.

Can you help with this problem?
