"Kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init" error msg...
This is my problem:
When I put the Ubuntu 6.10 cd, I restart my system. The system launches the CD automatically. I choose the first option, which is Start or install Ubuntu.
The system starts to load the kernel, and apparently it does it, but then a black screen comes up with a lot of things, and at the end of the screen it says:
"Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!"
I tried to burn the cd a few times, at low speeds, but the same thing happened.
Also, I tried to run my cd in another computer, and well... It worked there. Not here. I also thought that my cdrom was damaged, well I tried another known-good cdrom, and same thing happened.
If this helps, before the kernel message, this message appeared (well, there were a lot more but this one I think is the worst):
<c01ecbf3> quirk_via_
I've been trying to search through the forums, google, and a lot of resources, even IRC. I've got no response.
Also, I ran the memory test, and I didn't let it finish, but till the point I cancelled it, it had found 12 errors. Before, I had tried to install the Hoary release, and I had no problems with that at all.
Do I have to let it finish the test?
What do I do with this kernel message? (again, I tried this cd in another computer, and it worked)
Thanks a lot for your support!!!
