wont let me add or remove programs

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

thats is what comes up when i try to add a program what should i do?

You should open a terminal and enter "sudo dpkg --configure -a"
It will ask your password and fix the problem.
When it's done you'll be able to add or remove programs
