i have installed ubuntu on a new computer and instalation error no suitable application to open any cd

i am new ubuntu is new and dont understand ubuntu language put disk into cd drive click setup get error cannot open no application suitable for automatic installation cannot install any cd printers/modems/etc

i dont know what to do

Well, if the programs you are trying to install use 'setup.exe' that is for windows systems. Please refer to

As far as setting up your printers, usually System -> Administration -> Printing will get you where you want to be.

As far as the modem, what kind of modem? Analog or DSL? Make and model?

I downloaded the latest version of ubuntu and opened the files, transferred to hard drive, but when I click on start.exe it will not install ubuntu. Says windowns does not know what program created the binary file. Tried to install and failed. What do I do??

I just bought a netgear wireless-g usb 2.0 adapter and it came with the install disk. but i mcant install anything. ive tried using the terminal, synaptic package manager and the add/remove programs, and mi still have nothing, and am currently restricted to using the crappy laptop for internet. how can I go about fixing this problem? I would be real happy if it were explained barny style. thanks.

dont have any Linus programs could not get anny assistance when i needed it
so i have thrown away linux ubuntu and linux xp a free anything that the
owner cannot use is nothing and i only wanted to know how to setup internet
connection still have not received any ass istance so dont ask me anything
about Linux it in my opinion not worth the trouble

Did you try booting from the Ubuntu CDROM? I'm not sure what it is you're attempting to do with Ubuntu / Linux under Windows, but sometimes it helps to start off Linux by just booting from the CD. That way you're not fighting two systems at once (which can be a daunting task). Also, do you know where you got the CD in the first place? Did you order it from Canonical, or somewhere else?

Please don't give up so soon. I'd like to help out, but I need some more information to go off of.
