Your Dell A920 AIO is a rebadged Lexmark X1270.

The problem with multifunction devices is that separate drivers are needed for printing and scanning.

The driver you need for the printer section is the Z600 driver.

There is no driver, as far as I know, for the scanner section.

Hi.

I was looking for your driver on http://www.openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=Dell

As you can see, there are two types of dell A(IO) 920. One is well supported, the other is not at all.

It says, that it can be used with the Lexmark z600 printer driver. Download here:

http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=100:23:0:400:0:0&emeaframe=&fileID=1151&searchLang=en&os_group=Redhat

This solution is not an official one, but seems to be a workaround. It seems that there is no official driver for this model, and not supposed to be.

Another important thing is that this driver will only make thinks work with printing. For scanning you will likely need an additional driver, for the scanner part. I can't help with that.

Download it to your home directory, then open a terminal, and type:

tar zxvf CJLZ600LE-CUPS-1.0-1.TAR.gz
sudo sh z600cups-1.0-1.tar.gz.sh

After that, you can delete this files. Read the README if you have questions.
This is the best I can suggest. It wasn't my working solution, I just googled it together.

Best regards, Gábor

I'm pretty sure your new printer is supported in scanning too.

Try xsane, it is the scanning application for linux.

You can try to install hplip - or something like - package - which is the hp support package -, from synaptic

An advice: Next time if you buy something to use with linux first look after if it has proper support, than just run to the shop and buy anything.

For linux supported printers see: openprinting.org

But basically if you want to buy something (for example a pinnacle pctv pro card) just type in google

linux "pinnacle pctv pro"

If you don't find in the first entries some clue that it is supported, you better don't buy it, as you did with this printer.

If you want something very much, and you take the time - no matter what it costs -, you will be able to make it alive anyway. And yes, I think you have taken less effort to make it alive than I did searching the probable solution for you. This is clearly proven by the way you bought this printer now. But then why do you ask for help, if you don't take it serious?

I am not a supporter guy, whos job is this. Here is noone payed for what he is doing. It's a community, and we help each other.

Gábor.
