lynksys WMP300N driver installation

Asked by Glen Binegar

I have been using this WMP300N without any problems on a windows XP/64 system. I upgraded the computer memory, hard drive, graphics card and switched to Windows 7. Now I can't install the drivers from the installation CD, nor have I been able to find a working answer on the internet. Lynksys does not have a driver for Windows 7 and is no longer supporting this product. Can I install it in my Linux 15.10 system, if so where can I find the driver and instalation instructions?

According to the following page

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCardsLinksys

it should work using the wl driver, ASSUMING that your wireless card also uses the BCM43XG chipset....

It depends on the chipset in your wireless adapter.

The wl driver is part of the bcmwl-kernel-source Ubuntu package.

You will first need to use a wired ethernet connection between your PC and your wireless router in order to be able to install this package.

If you run:

sudo lshw -C network; lsusb; lsb_release -a; uname -a

What is the output?

Thanks

Thank you for the help so far. The WiFi adapter card is operating in a fashion now, though it drops out after a minute or so. I just picked up a TP-Link TL WN851ND wireless adapter (~$20) which I am going to install in the Windows 7 computer. If it works I'll let this rest for a while, as I'll be setting up the media room. My next step is to address the drop out situation as recommended at"wl- Debian Wiki". Glen

Glen, I can probably help out with the wifi drop out issue. But to do that, I need to see the full Terminal output from your PC as requested in post #4....
