It's just a home grade switch. There is nothing to "install". Just connect an Ethernet cable from your PC to one of the LAN sockets on the device. You will get a DHCP lease from the switch and get network access.

Then, why did you buy the device?

For what purpose do you want to use that D-Link 1005E device - if not for connecting your computer to the internet, and eventually connecting a printer via network cabling?

Can you please describe what kind of network connection you have?

I assume that there is some kind of router box provided by your internet service provider, and you have a cable connecting the Ethernet socket on your computer with that box.
Is this the case?

I have Telus - their Internet cable is connected from the wall socket
directly to my Computter.
Is there a way of splitting that? Need it for my HP Officejet 6815 Printer.

It should be possible to change the layout to the following:

Connect the D-Link box to the Telus wall socket with a network cable,
connect your computer to the D-Link box with a network cable,
and connect your printer to a third outlet of the D-Link box.

If everything is working as desired, then you will have internet connection as before, and also have a network connection to your printer.

Did this:
Connect the D-Link box to the Telus wall socket with a network cable,
connect your computer to the D-Link box with a network cable,
and connect your printer to a third outlet of the D-Link box.

D-Link now has 3 lights on.
Reset the Printer
Connected Printer to Router.

Now What?

1. Do you have connection to the internet from your computer similar to what you had before?

2. From the user guide on http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-6800-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5390300/model/5401642/manuals

To check the IP address of the printer, obtain the IP address by printing a network configuration
page. From the printer control panel display, touch Setup, touch Reports, and then touch
Network Configuration Report.

You should see the IP address on this report. That is a string of four numbers segregated by dots, something like 123.123.123.123 or 10.0.0.2

Open a terminal window on your computer and issue the command

ping IP-address

with the IP address of your printer (i.e. ping 10.0.0.2 or whatever IP address you got shown for the printer)

Does that work? Or, what problem do you see when you try doing that?

Thanks. I have more setup info, but it is for Windows style computers.
So I need to know how to do the following for kubuntu 15.04:

1. : enter the router's address for network administration in the Web
address field and hit return

 Tried http://192.168.1.1 and http://192.168.0.1 - both don't work.

*2. Log in to the router*. The router's home page will ask you for a
username and password. Both are provided in the router's documentation. - I
have no documentation

Ok.

1. You can abort the ping process by pressing ctrl-c (if you haven't done it already). It would run forever.

2. If you now repeat running hp-setup, what output do you get?

That is the file on your system, not in Dropbox. You need to make a URL (starts with HTTP://) and we can click the link. The only users who will see your image with what you have posy are local to your PC.

It's like posting C:\pic.png on a forum and expecting it to work on the Web.

Ok, then please check all your question documents on https://answers.launchpad.net/~bumpysax-w and mark those as solved where the question is no more open. Meanwhile it became a bit confusing whether you are still waiting for answers or not.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Peter Saxon for more information if necessary.
