temporary guess session

Asked by Alcides Viltres Remón

Good morning I bought a Dell computer with ubuntu and do not know how to access the session manager. When I open the computer, the temporary session guess appears and informs me that everything will work deleited when i will go out. When I access users accounts and seeing the administrator account for the changes that I require does not give me access. All started when I first opened the computer.in it appeared a map that I had not in mind and when I gave opening session, appeared guess user and i need to update the time. Then I realized I had to have access to manager account to make changes. Here came the problem and when I go to users accounts in programs not give me access to the manager account. Please help me. thanks a lot.

Press CTRL + ALT + T and run the command, what is the output?

this is the command what i do, but the figure terminal appears and
disappears quickly.

Pardon for my ignorance, please understand me. this is my situation, I
buy a new computer, start working for the first time and entered the
session guest, where I have a dialog informing me that everything what
i do in this session will be deleted and i must save it in an appeal
external. As owner I want to access the session manager to make my
changes and when I am looking for in setting users accounts, it do not
give me access to the administrator account.

Attaching images to an email to Launchpad answers does not work. All attachments are immediately discarded, and we cannot see them.
If you want to provide a screenshot, you have to upload that image to an image hosting service, and paste the link that you get into the Launchpad answer document.

We want that you log in to your Ubuntu system (for the moment it does not matter whether it is a guest session or as a named user).
Open a terminal window (e.g. by simultaneously pressing ctrl-alt-t)

enter the following commands (one by one):

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
df -h
ls -l /home
whoami

Then use the terminal window's menu entries "edit - select all" and "edit - copy", and paste everything as a response into this laun0hcpad question document.

Alt-f2 should open an input box to enter a command.
Type "nautilus" (without the quotes) into that box, hit 'Enter', and the file explorer program should start.
In the left half of the file explorer window you should then see a list of addresses like "Home", "Desktop", "Documents"..., and below that "Computer"
Click on "Computer", and you should see a different listing on the right hand side.
Please tell us what you see on the right hand side.

Ok, it seems that this attempt was not successful.

I think the only possibility is using the recovery mode of Ubuntu.

Try following the procedure in http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword to find out the name of the administrative user, set a new password to that user, and then try logging in using this username and not the guest session.

I see only two possibilities:

1. You succeed in entering recovery mode (try pressing the shift key earlier or later during the boot process, repeatedly hit the shift key, etc.)
or
2. You can try re-installing Ubuntu from an Ubuntu installation kit on DVD or bootable USB stick.
